The Injured Workers’ Advocates, which used to be called the Association of South Carolina Claimant Attorneys for Workers’ Compensation, has recently elected its new governing body.

Everything from president to executive committee has been elected for the 2008-2009 year. This association is devoted to obtaining workers’ compensation for deserving workers.

Chain Reaction Collision Kills Driver

The John F. Limehouse Bridge to Johns Island was closed on Thursday morning due to a large chain reaction collision. One woman was killed, and several other drivers were injured.

A Jaguar coming from Johns Island crossed the center line and collided with another car. The driver of the other car was killed in the collision. In addition, an SUV and a motorcycle were pulled into the collision. All were injured, and the motorcyclist suffered head trauma.

Gov Sanford Holds Off on Push for Information

Since 2007, Gov. Sanford has been trying to gain access to information regarding commission awards and attorney fees for workers’ compensation cases. This came about when he tried to impose new standards for workers’ compensation.

Unfortunately, had these standards been implemented, it could have meant that deserving people would not qualify for workers’ compensation. This is an ongoing battle of Sanford’s, and while it is currently on hold, it will likely be coming up again soon.

Repetitive Motion Injury Compensation

Multi Vehicle Collision Injures Motorists

At the end of the year, two vehicles were involved in a crash on I-95 southbound at the 43 mile marker. There were seven people involved and either injured or killed.

A tractor trailer rear ended a minivan, sending it into the wooded median and causing it to hit several trees. Five people were trapped in the wreckage of the accident, one of them died, and the seventh was ejected from the vehicle and suffered critical injuries.
